![]() Greetings in the Most Holy Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Where are you in your relationship to the Church? What are you looking for in a church home? When people visit a church parish, they each have certain things in mind that they are looking for to see if they want to stay. People may be looking for a robust youth ministry, a good singles ministry, or a powerful music presentation each week. Others want long in depth sermons. Others want short sermons without a lot of technical material, more of a feel-good motivational talk. Some folks want a charismatic service with lots of spontaneity while others from a liturgical background prefer a prayer book service. People often ask me what makes Church of the Trinity unique, especially since we are a small parish meeting in rented facilities. | ||||
Before I tell you about us, let me share a comment that a visitor recently made to me after the service. This gentleman said to me, "I immediately felt at home here. In a large church you can get lost in the crowd and it is often weeks or months before you feel at home. Your people really made us feel welcome immediately."
Now there is certainly nothing wrong with a large church or even a mega-church. Praise God for blessing such ministries and drawing many people to himself. But there is also a place for those who do not want to feel lost in the crowd. In my mind, this is one of the things that we have to offer - a loving group of dedicated Christians who will accept you for who you are regardless of your economic status, the clothes you wear, where you are on your spiritual journey, and who will make you feel welcome the minute you walk in the door.
We are of course Anglicans in our worship style. That means that we follow a liturgy based upon the Book of Common Prayer. But we are also not rigid in our worship. We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday. Our table is open to any baptized Christian. After each Eucharist we have a time of anointing with oil and prayer for healing, special needs, or standing in for someone else who is in need of prayer. We have seen some amazing answers to our prayers.
My goal at Trinity is to make sure that people are fed each week by both Word and Sacrament, for our Lord is truly present in both. Preaching is not just a five or ten minute motivational talk or political diatribe. Sermons are Scripture based and are designed to motivate you to grow in the grace and knowledge of our God and Savior. It is not uncommon for someone to ask me a question while I am preaching or right after I finish. After all, I'd much rather have something clarified on the spot than to have someone walk away wondering. People asked Jesus questions when he was teaching.
We have a variety of music at Trinity. Everyone has different tastes in music. Some prefer the contemporary praise songs while others prefer the stately hymns of the Church. Those from non-Anglican backgrounds like gospel songs and hymns. So we vary our music. Our only priority is that our music glorifies God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
Church of the Trinity is a church where you will be LOVED. If you are hurting, tired, lonely, in despair, need a friend, or simply need a shoulder to lean on or cry on, we exist for you. You will find our people to be loving people who truly care about you. We will listen to you, pray with and for you, and help you in any way we can. We want you to experience the love of Christ through us.
Finally, at Trinity we take a stand on those things that are important and allow freedom on those things that are not. We will stand fast on the faith that has been handed down to us from the Apostles and Fathers of the Church. We do not attempt to be politically correct so as not to offend society. We do not feel it is our right to change 2000 years of Church history and Tradition. Nor do we feel it is our duty to be legalists, imposing upon others the traditions (small "t"), commandments, and personal opinions of men. Unity on essentials, liberty on non-essentials.
I invite you to visit with us and see for yourself. We are a growing and loving parish. Come and see the difference. You will be glad you did!
Your servant by the Grace and Mercy of God,
Mark+
